I sat on a rock gazing out over Glenmore Forest to Meall a’Bhuachaille before making the steep ascent up the west arm of the corrie onto the broad ridge above. Originally tabled as Sgor na h-Eilde and as shown on Victorian maps, Sgurr Eilde Mor was renamed in 1921 big peak of the hind, forming a counterpart to Sgor Eilde Beag on the other side of the lochan. There are no navigational markers or assistance beyond this point.  It is usually combined with its neighbours further east.  Beinn Alligin ( Scottish Gaelic: Beinn Àilleagan) is one of the classic mountains of the Torridon region of Scotland, lying to the north of Loch Torridon, in the Highlands. From the south the Lairig Ghru can be approached The Lairig an Laoigh, like the Lairig Ghru, links Speyside with Deeside, but this more easterly pass is far less known than its higher neighbour.  In contrast, in Coire na Creiche (Benn, 1993), recessional moraines cover much of the valley floor and sides for 2 km inside the margin and record up to 10 retreat positions (Benn, 1990). The ascent to Sgùrr nan Eag can either be made fairly directly up the ridge (moderate scrambling) or by using a path in the scree lower down on the right (no scrambling; careful route Glenmore, across into Coire na Ciste (Hollow of the casket) and Coire Laogh mor (Big hollow of the Cattle) when weather conditions allow. There is a cluster of boulders on the rim of Coire Laogh Mor, visible on the skyline from the Coire na Ciste car park.  The two routes can be combined, with a wild-camp or stay in a bothy, to make a magnificent circuit.  Please ensure you have adaquate navigational equipment and the knowledge how to use them to get you safely on and off the mountains. In some cirques, such as Coire Lagan, as few as two retreat positions, both near the terminus, have been identified (Benn, 1990).  Just behind the boulders is the summit crest of Fionn Bheinn above its coire, Toll Mor.  This circular walk will take you from the Buachaille Etive Mòr car park, past Lagangarbh (possibly Scotland&#39;s most photographed cottage) and up the coire Na Tulaich and on to Stob Dearg.  B ulldozed by glaciers through the heart of the high Cairngorms, the Lairig Ghru and Lairig an Laoigh are two of Britain&#39;s grandest and best-known mountain passes. Altitude: 945 metres.  A challenging hike with over 3,400ft of ascent, this circular route heads up Coire na Tulaich Beinn Alligin.  Stalking between 1 st August and 20 th October.  I wanted a photo of the Horns of Alligin from the summit of Sgurr Mor so with the high pressure and weather looking great I headed for Torridon.  The walkers went into a huddle and I heard one giving navigation instructions and safety advice – “if there was much snow there could be avalanche danger at the top of Coire Laogh Mor so we must avoid that”. One of the most iconic mountains in Scotland, certainly the most photographed! Buachaille Etive Mòr is a classic mountain ridge walk in the Highlands comprising four summits, two of them Munros. However, some spindrift was observed at the top of Coire Laogh Mor today indicating fresh windslab will be starting to develop in high wind sheltered areas (North-West to North-East aspects above 1000 metres). A fine track heads in from near Gairloch to the foot of Baosbheinn and Beinn an Eoin, from where a circular hiking route over long wide ridges gains superb vantage points for stunning views of Torridon and the north-west coast. It is not entirely clear how this is related to the event on the 24th December, as previously reported here in the blog .  The name Beinn Alligin is from the Scottish Gaelic, meaning Jewelled Hill.
