Dec 11, 2016 · The random wire with a unun is my favorite, but I still use the hamsticks and wire dipoles in some situations because they offer better performance. The antenna will perform better if you can lay out a ground wire; otherwise it will use the coax shield and radio chassis for ground. We would like to show you a description here but the site won’t allow us. Dave C KD2JIP. It's better to connect a counterpoise wire to the 9:1 unun and follow that with a 1:1 current choke on the coaxial cable between the unun and the rig. Palomar Engineers employs a dual core matching system that offers wide bandwidth (1-61 MHz), 500 watt PEP rating, and a connection for a Technically a true "longwire" needs to be at least one wavelength long. An old but good multi-ba UNUN 9:1 or 4:1- 3kW ICAS This is is dual 9:1 and 4:1 UNUN used for popular “non-resonant” length END FED wire antennas or verticals like 27 or 43 feet. I've configured it as a linked dipole on 20m and 40m, and as a verticle on 20m, 40m and 80m. Note this is an UnUn, not a Balun, as it is interfacing between the unbalanced coax feed line and the unbalanced antenna. Less wire makes for an easier to install antenna in tighter, size compromised locations. Figure 1 Typical ATU and long wire antenna configuration with an earth or earth plus counterpoise. With the view to establish a quick and easy multi-band antenna deployment for portable and camping operations a simple long wire antenna with an earth or earth plus counterpoise arrangement with a 9:1 voltage unun is one possible solution. Its really an impedance transformer (9:1) to feed a high impedance, end fed (unbalanced) random wire which is likely to be a few hundred ohms, and transform it into something closer to a 50Ω (unbalanced) coaxial input, hence UnUn. This video discusses End Fed antennas and particularly End Fed Random Wire antennas for ham radio. These are based on the use of a sloper configuration with the unun near ground level but final Jun 7, 2022 · June 8, 2022 at 9:17 am. One end of the wire attaches to a tree, pole or other support, preferably at a high point. Jul 6, 2021 · Jul 6, 2021. 95. Workable: Attach counterpoise stud on unun to a good ground rod at the feed point of the antenna. This Mini 9:1 UnUn can be used also as the base point of a vertical antenna with its random length (minimum lenght should be at least 6m). The Packtenna random wire is a brilliant little antenna to pair with radios like the X6100 that have built-in, wide-range ATUs. If you have 40-45ft of coax then try the choke 20-30ft from the antenna if Jan 24, 2020 · Modified RANDOM WIRE ANTENNA with 9:1 UnUn (part 2) Random Wire Antenna with 9:1 UnUn. For it's simplicity and small dimensions is very popular for portable or SOTA activities, and also as a static-mobile antenna. Purchase your MFJ EndFed 1/2 Wave 300W 80M-10M Wire Antenna - MFJ-1982MP from GigaParts today. So, if you connect a length of wire that presents an impedance of about 450 Ω to the input, you’ll get an impedance of about 50 Ω on the output. Long Wire Antenna. Your effective RF ground is the outside of the coaxial cable shield and everything connected to it. Random Wires. Select Configuration: Required Model 9135s - Studs on sides w/std hex nuts Model 9135sw - Studs on sides w/wingnuts Model 9135ew - Eyebolt on Antenna side. html#/Heres If you mostly want to run the most popular bands, a 4:1 unun with 55ft on one side and 12ft on the other (a 5/6 OCFD) will be truly resonant, with an SWR low enough to tune internally, on 40, 20, 15 and 10m. Most of these employ a 5:1 or 9:1 matching unit so that antenna tuners can bring the impedance down to acceptable levels across the bands the antenna was cut to cover. Time Owned: more than 12 months. The 43 material might be "better" for 160-meters, AM-BCB, etc. Recommended wire lengths and Configuration Notes for Unun models 4932, 4935, 9130, 9132 & 9135 The following tables show the recommended lengths to use for the antenna wire based on the bands you wish to cover. Description. Nov 15, 2021 · Thanks to Peter (G3OJV) of the "Waters and Stanton Video Channel" for this excellent introduction to random wire antennas. http://www. All you need for a random wire 5. Works well with both internal transceiver and external antenna tuners. Currently have a 44 foot 'random wire' antenna (w/ 20 ft counterpoise) with a Palomar 9:1 unun that keeps zorching automatic tuners. You can add your own wire or get the complete product from this link EFLW-3K antennas. This design is excellent for matching both long and short Jan 22, 2020 · This is post 2122 in a continuing series of simple ham radio antennas. Disadvantages. Apr 22, 2022 · Before talking more about EFLW antenna lengths it’s probably worth discussing some designs for the 9:1 matching transformer. QRP Dummy Load With Power Measurement. Unlike the other Spark Plugs, a counterpoise lug is incorporated into the 2021-12-24 The past few days I have been using both a 29' and 35' version of the QRPGuys 40-10 mini unun tenna and the QRPGuys 40-10 unun tenna, sometimes referred to as random wire antennas. These are sometimes known as a Magnetic Longwire Balun. He was, of course, 599 here, but he gave me a 589. but Hams commonly call any end-fed wire a longwire or more correctly random wire antenna. The Random Wire Antenna is popular with Han Radio operators around the world. 5 - 54 MHz. Aug 6, 2020 · Re: Putting up a "random" wire antenna for HF bands. patreon. Antennas 101 / How does an antenna work Long wire or random wire antennas are very simple antennas. 00 $95. Thus the need for a short counterpoise (so 5 to 15% of the antenna is on the other side of the transformer/balun Random Wires.
